Mitigating Climate Change

GGF aims to address the challenges brought by climate change by improving adaptive capacities and mitigating its impacts. We also aim to enhance animal and farm production, reduce poverty risks, and strengthen social networks. We recognize the important role of women in promoting education and indigenous drought-coping activities, which can contribute to improving neighborhood food security. In the short term, the aim is to provide practical actions to improve pastoralists’ education and environmental use by transferring appropriate technology and knowledge to improve adaptive strategies to changes in their environments. The technological transfers would include innovative activities such as haymaking, making animal feeds through methods like managed grazing, conserving forage like hay and silage, using crop residues, agroforestry, supplementary feeding with grains and protein supplements, providing mineral licks, managing water access, utilizing livestock waste, establishing grazing reserves and practicing climate-smart agriculture while also improving animal husbandry. The long-term aim is to provide pastoralists with skills to improve their livelihoods, develop adaptive strategies to survive climate change, and conserve their environments.
